8 January, 2023

Colombo Malay Cricket Club that fields a hockey team in the hockey tournaments conducted in Sri Lanka has come alive once again after the 70s when they produced many players of national standing.

They are now touring Oman to participate in the AHF qualifiers for the Junior World Cup and in their first game against Old Ashokians Hockey Club they emerged winners by three goals to one. All goals were scored in the second half.

Shifan Kamaleen scored two goals while Nadir Nawfer scored one for Malays.

They made a tactical change of positions after half time that saw Kamaleen make use of the opportunity to score first. Nawfer followed it with their second goal and Kamaleen sealed the game with his deflection off the Ashokian custodian.

The new Hindu College boy Amirshan made the difference for Malays with his talent and skilful play. He saved a certain goal when he deflected a high scoop shot at goal in the first half.

Old Ashokians scored their solitary goal through Sajan.
