Lionel Madugalle, the father of former Sri Lanka captain and current International Cricket Council (ICC) chief match referee Ranjan Madugalle, passed away on Friday at the age of 99.
His funeral was held yesterday at the General Cemetery in Borella.
Lionel Madugalle served as Secretary to the Ministry of Sports from 1970 to 1977 where he endeavoured to sustain and promote sports at the highest level of governance.
He served as Secretary to Sports Minister KB Ratnayake at a time when the nation’s sporting set-up was in a very healthy and responsible state.
