St. Peter's College rugby pocketted a platinum godfather for their team in a United Kingdom-based company called Nabco which is a retail solutions provider covering shelving equipment and accessories among other aspects.

The Peterites introduced their sponsor to the media at a function held at the school hall on Thursday in the presence of college rector Fr. Rohitha Rodrigo, the Managing Director of Nabco, Trishan Satyadheva and Mangala Dharmaprema the president of the Peterite Rugby Foundation.

The value of the sponsorship was not disclosed but both St. Peter's College and Nabco said they were looking forward to a long and durable partnership through rugby as the school celebrates its centenary year after the sport entered their portals in 1932 and played their first match against Royal College.

"St. Peter's College has a proud rugby tradition and we are proud to support St. Peter's rugby as much as we can and make it our priority," said Satyadheva.

The Peterites did not have a happy season last year but are expected to come out as a competitive unit when the new season starts on a date yet to be announced by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association.

Speaking on the occasion Fr. Rodrigo said the school considers it a blessing to procure Nabco as their sponsor at a time when the country was struggling to make ends meet.

"Nabco will not just support St. Peter's College rugby but the country's economy as well, as we go through tough times and we welcome you (Nabco) with open arms," said Fr. Radrigo.
