University of Sri Jayewardenepura collected 356.50 points to emerge overall champions at the Inter-University Games 2022/2023 that concluded recently.
Their athletes won the badminton (men’s and women’s) tennis (men’s and women’s), cricket, swimming (women’s) championships, while finishing runners-up in rugby, chess (men’s), hockey (women’s) and carrom (men’s) from among the events that were held.
University of Colombo collected 340 points to finish as runners-up while University of Sabaragamuwa finished third with 320 points.
The Inter-University Games was conducted by the Sri Lanka University Sports Association (SLUSA) and contested by nearly 20,000 athletes from 16 universities.
The SLUSA intends to select a contingent of some 60 athletes based on their performances, to represent Sri Lanka at the 2023 World University Games that will be held this year in New York, USA. (TBR)
