David Pieris Group opens leisure facility in Bandaragama

22 January, 2023

The David Pieris Group leisure cluster opened Pearl Bay at Bandaragama recently, filling a void in Sri Lanka’s entertainment landscape.

This leisure offering brings together a water park, built and certified to European Health and Safety Standards and an FIA/CIK certified leisure and professional karting track.

The facility has four key zones, SplashBay (water slides), SpeedBay (leisure karting), TargetBay (air rifle shooting range) and YumBay (restaurants) and relaxation and activity areas for the entire family.

SplashBay, the water-based zone comprises four towers and sixteen slides of different thrill levels. The waterpark includes a gravity drop slide of 88 m, a loophole slide of 120 m, a 40 m mat racer slide and a separate children’s area consisting of a four-slide water play structure.

The slides were manufactured and commissioned by Arihant Industrial Corporation Limited and after extensive testing the facility was awarded “Fit for Use Certification.”

Chairman of DP Group Leisure Cluster, Ramli Mohamad said, “Although the project was delayed due to Covid and other external factors, we are delighted to finally give Sri Lankans a truly international leisure experience. A great deal of planning and investment has gone into this, and we are grateful to the young and young-at-heart team that made this a reality against all odds.”

“Given Sri Lanka’s limited experience in this area, we sought international expertise on every step of the way, and we even went as far as to hire a core team from overseas who have extensive experience and expertise in managing water parks and leisure facilities. We are confident that our guests will have an experience that will be unlike any they have experienced in Sri Lanka or in a similar facility overseas,” he said.
