Kelani Cables enrolls new students for its training program

Kelani Cables PLC enrolled 55 new students for its CSR program, ‘KelaniSaviya’ in 2023.

KelaniSaviya the one-year electrical technicians’ training program is being conducted by Kelani Cables in association with the Engineering Faculty of the Peradeniya University since 2007.

KelaniSaviya is the one and only electrical technicians training program in Sri Lanka that endows participants with a University certificate on completion of the program. All costs pertaining to the program are incurred by Kelani Cables.

KelaniSaviya was commissioned in 2007 following signing of an MoU between Peradeniya University’s former Vice Chancellor Prof S. B. S. Abeykoon and Kelani Cables former Managing Director Hemantha Perera.

According to the stipulated terms and conditions of the MoU the CSR program was to end in 2012. However, Kelani Cables PLC Director/CEO Mahinda Saranapala took steps to extend the program for a further period. Thus the program was extended for a further period of five years till 2017.

KelaniSaviya then became a top-of–the-mind program of budding electrical technicians of the country and was extended three times from 2012 to 2017, 2017 to 2022 and 2022 to 2027.

Director and CEO, Kelani Cables Mahinda Saranapala said KelaniSaviya is only training program in the country which offers internationally recognised University certificates to the successful candidates. He said Kelani Cables company is proud to contribute towards this national level CSR program. He urged the participants to derive the utmost benefit from the program and brighten their professional future.

Vice Chancellor, Peradeniya University, Prof. M. D. Lamawansa said the KelaniSaviya’ CSR program adds value to it every year which is significant.

GM Marketing, Kelani Cables, Dr. Anil Munasinghe said, “KelaniSaviya is the most comprehensive program done by a Sri Lankan private sector company partnering with the government sector. Being a student of this program hence is significant for a novice. The products of this program are fully-fledged electrical technicians with a university certificate. We pay our gratitude to the Peradeniya University for conducting this productive program.”

Kelani Cables Marketing Manager Channa Jayasinghe, Electronics and Electrical Engineering Workshop Director Dr. Maheshi Dissanayake, KelaniSaviya program director, Prabhath Binduhewa and program coordinator, Jayantha Wijesinghe were also present.
