Cycling Savaraya to cover over 550 kms

An event called Cycling Savaraya has been organized to mark the 75th Independence anniversary of Sri Lanka over four days covering a distance of 551.8 kilometres.

The race is organized by the Presidential Secretariat, Ministry of State for Administration Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government and the Ministry of Sports and Department of Sports Development.

Sri Lanka Cycling Federation will play a big hand in this race and will organize the event in accordance with International Cycling Rules UCI and CFSL.

The race will start on January 31 at 9.30 am from Point Pedro in the north to Medawachchiya, a distance of 136.7 km. The second day’s stage will start at 9 am on February 1 from Medawachchiya to Mahiyangana covering a distance of 164.3 km. The third day’s stage will start at 9 am from Mahiyangana to Wellawaya covering 102.6 km and the fourth day will start at 9 am from Wellawaya to Dondra Head in the south covering a distance of 148.2 km.

The race route is divided into sprints and hill climbs to select each champion rider of each category.

A managers’ meeting will be held on January 30 at 5.00 pm at the Jaffna District Secretariat to spell details of the race and the participants should be affiliated to the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation and will be classified under Super and under-23 years of age.

A minimum of ten cyclists can form a team from each club.

The deadline for entries is January 28 at 12 noon.
