Football lovers of Kandy are hoping that the newly elected committee of the controlling body will give their best support for Kandy football and bring the game back to its former position.
The Kandy Association Football League (KAFL) was formed in 1925 and is one of the founder members of the football governing body in Sri Lanka. A few years back the controlling body made a big show by claiming Kandy will have a modern football stadium at Dangolla. The world body FIFA laid the foundation stone and also funded it.
Many years have lapsed but nothing has happened and only the foundation stone still stands.
Kingswood-Sri Rahula drawn
The two day under-19 schools division II cricket match between Kingswood College and Sri Rahula College ended in a draw in Kandy.
Kingswoodians batting first made 216 in the first innings and in reply Sri Rahula were able to score two runs more (218) as Kenula Pihilianga bowled to a good line and length to pocket 6 for 36.

Maliyadeva Model beat Trinity
Trinity College under-20 football team had a flying start in the Sri Lanka Schools Football tournament by being the group champions by beating Isipathana College 5-0. However, in the pre-quarter-final game they went down to Maliyadeva Model School 1-0 in a well fought out game played on Friday morning in Kurunegala. Thanks to a superb goal coming off the boot of U.U. Udayanga before the final whistle.
Cricket promoter Chandrasena : laid to rest
Former umpire and cricket coach Ranjan Chandrasena was laid to rest at the Mahiyawa General Cemetery on Saturday (21).
He was a product of St. Andrew’s College Gampola. As a coach he supported many schools in Kandy and was earlier attached to the PWD from where he started umpiring and coaching.
He produced many talented men and women cricketers while coaching at Nugawela Central in Kandy. Many players coached by him graduated to other popular Colleges in Kandy. Currently a few of his players are in the Premier league for leading Colombo clubs.
At the recently concluded Women’s Super -4- tournament, one of his students Tharushi Rajakaruna won the best bowler’s award. He helped many lesser known schools in Kandy by officiating at matches without any payments and served the KDCA Executive Committee for a long period. His last assignment was with Kandy Youth Cricket Club as manager.
