Kandy SC in thrilling 27-25 win over CH

Kandy Sports Club kept their reputation in tact when they beat CH and FC by 27 points (4 tries, 2 conversions, 1 penalties) to 25 points (3 tries, 2 conversion, 4 penalties) in their Nippon Paint ‘A’ Division Inter-club League Rugby first round fixture played at CH home ground at the Race Course International Stadium yesterday. At half time the winners led 17-8.

Kandy SC took the lead in the 5th minute of the game when their winger Kavindu Perera scored a try and Tharinda Ratwatte missed the conversion.

Kandy increased the score to a 10-0 lead in the 11th minute of play when centre Tharinda Ratwatte touched down for another try which he failed with the conversion.

CH and FC cut down the lead to 5-10 in the 16th minute of play when centre Ovin Hettiarachchi sprinted his way over for an excellent try. Hirusha Sampath missed the conversion.

CH closed the gap 10-8 in the 28th minute of play when Sampath fired across a 35 meter penalty.

Just before the half time Kandy went further ahead in the 37th minute of the game when hooker Uchitha Jayasuriya scored a try which was converted by Tharinda. Kandy 17 to CH 8.

At lemons the score read Kandy 17 points to CH 8.

After the resumption in the 44th minute of play, CH winger Hirusha Sampath put over another 35 metre penalty to cut down the lead to 17-11.

Kandy increased their lead to 20-11 in the 54th minute of play when Tharinda fired across a 35 meter penalty.

In the 62nd minute of play CH and FC closed the gap to 20-18 when flanker Yoshitha Rajapaksa touched down for a try to which Hirusha made the conversion.

In the 74th minute of play Kandy SC flanker Chathura Zoysa managed to score a try to which fly half Nigel Ratwatte made the conversion.

Just before full time, in the 78th minute of play CH and FC flanker Yoshitha Rajapaksa scored his second try to which Sampath made the conversion.
