Diamond Cutters to invest US $ 12.5m on new factory

Diamond Cutters Ltd launched the construction of a factory, dedicated to cutting and polishing diamonds for the export market, at the Modarawila Industrial Zone, Panadura recently.

It was held under the patronage of Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay and BOI Director General Renuka M. Weerakone. Diamond Cutters, a subsidiary of the Niru Group of Companies, one of Sri Lanka’s highest export earners in the gem and jewellery segment, will invest US 12.5m on the project and is expected to create 1,500 employment opportunities.

From 3D diamond scanners to some of the world’s best diamond polishing benches will be used for polishing diamonds for leading brands enabling local workers to learn new technology. Set up in 1987, Diamond Cutters Limited together with Niru Lanka Exports (Pvt) Limited solidifies Niru’s value chain with about 49,000 sq. feet of workspace and over 1,300 employees.
