5 March, 2023

A group of 50 women from around the world who arrived in Colombo for the APAC Mid-Term Meeting of Ladies Circle International (LCI) held a Press Round Table with local media at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo, last weekend.

“We have been enjoying Sri Lanka’s sunshine, beaches, wildlife and history as we prepare to deliberate on how to make a difference to those less fortunate by supporting community projects and raising funds for the needy people in Sri Lanka,” said Ladies Circle International (LCI President), Martina Santoro. She said while being resident in Italy; she would encourage all the Ladies Circle Round Tables in Europe to visit Sri Lanka.

She said that their aim is to promote international friendship, understanding and goodwill by encouraging members to extend their support to each other and their community needs.

President, Ladies Circle of Sri Lanka, Sanjana Selvarajah said, “Ladies Circle works closely with Round Table International, a similar organisation for men and together we carry out multiple projects and initiatives for community services in the country,” she said, adding that the Ladies Circle is one of the best platforms to serve the community.

“It is certainly no easy task for a woman; what with trying to make something of her career, starting her family life, taking care of her children, running home and being a corporate wizard, there are plenty of sacrifices and compromising she has to do.

“But we are a group of business people, entrepreneurs, corporate executives, housewives and women from various

backgrounds, working towards uplifting the community,” said Selvarajah.

President, Round Table International, Jayant Agrawal, from Nepal and President, Round Table Sri Lanka, Shamaal Panagoda also spoke.

Ladies Circle International (LCI) is a non-political, non-sectarian body promoting and co-ordinating working relationships with Round Table International, Tangent International, Agora Club International and Club 41 International with a community of 13,000 women across five regions, globally.

A community of 2,032 women in the Asia Pacific across seven countries, LCI defines friendship as a remarkable experience sharing a bond with ladies from different parts of the globe with different cultures and upbringing and yet share a common goal and language in friendship. Every Circler endeavours to make a difference to those less fortunate than them by supporting community projects and raising funds for the needy.
