Army cyclists dominate Air Force race

Chandana Dayananda of the Army Cycling Club emerged the overall winner in the Air Force Papendi Sawariya Cycle race held over three days and finished in Anuradhapura yesterday.

He finished in a time of nine hours 43minutes and 31 seconds to complete the distance of over 400 kilometres over the three days.

Awishka Dilnuwan also of the Army CC finished second in a time of nine hours 43 minutes and 33 seconds.

Dayananda of the Army Cycling Club was placed first in the sprint event with 16 points. He was followed by Saranga Perera also of the Army CC with a close 15 points in the overall standing.

Suranga Ranaweera emerged as the king of the mountain climbing with 17 points. This was well clear of the second placed Dayanandana who obtained only 12 points.

Dayanandana was the overall winner at the end of two days of racing. He finished the total distance of 263 kilometres in a total time of six hours, 43 minutes and 51 seconds riding at an average speed of 39.21 kmph.

Army CC won the team event with Pasindu Thisera, Sahana Shihara and Awishka Dilnuwan in the team.

Air Force finished second while DMMC CC finished third.
