The Malaysian Government has agreed to provide a quota of 100,000 jobs to Sri Lankan workers in many sectors including defence and plantations. This employment quota has been obtained as a result of the discussions held between Foreign Employment State Minister Jagath Pushpakumara and Home Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in Kuala Lumpur.
State Minister Pushpakumara who visited Malaysia on the official invitation of Malaysian Home Affairs Minister held discussions with Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar and Speaker Johari Abdul. The Malaysian Home Affairs Minister has told the State Minister that there are jobs for the security services in the Malaysian government and for that the workers are brought only from Nepal. The Minister has expressed his willingness to give that opportunity to the Sri Lankan workers based on the request made by the State Minister.
In addition to this, the Malaysian Minister has agreed to provide 10,000 jobs immediately as a pilot project in the domestic service and plantation sectors which are already open to Sri Lankan workers. The State Minister said that this is the first time that the Malaysians government opens job opportunities for Sri Lankans in the security field.
Malaysian Human Resources Minister had informed the State Minister that this program will be implemented after it receives the approval of Malaysian Cabinet. The Malaysian Speaker has also commended the efforts taken by the president to solve the economic issues faced by the country
