LRH Director ordered to hand over Meenagaya train infant to parents

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday ordered the Director of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) for Children to handover the infant left behind in the Meenagaya train to his parents. The Magistrate made this order subsequent to the submission made by the Attorney-at-Law Lakshman Dias.

Attorney-at-Law Lakshman Dias appearing on behalf of the two suspects informed the Magistrate that the duo will be legally wed following their release.

The Counsel further stated that the parents of the both parties agreed to take care of the infant as well.

The Magistrate further ordered the couple to appear before the Government Analyst’s Department on March 21 along with the child and provide blood samples for the relevant DNA test.Filing a probation report before the Magistrate, the Probation officer said that the duo has ability and interest to take care of the child as well.

Accordingly, the couple was ordered to be released on two sureties of Rs.500, 000 each. The Magistrate also ordered the Probation Officer to constantly supervise the child and fixed further inquiries for June 02.
