GCE A/L exam - TU action delays evaluation

19 March, 2023

Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara said that evaluating answer scripts of the GCE (A/L) examination - 2022 has been delayed by 24 days due to the trade union action by university lecturers and Government school teachers who evaluate the answer scripts.

The allowances for the examiners who evaluate answer scripts have been increased sharply to encourage the examiners. The suspension of the evaluation process due to the refusal by examiners would lead to a delay in issuing examination results. The admission of students to the universities would also be further delayed due to this, the Examinations Commissioner General told the Sunday Observer.

He called upon those who evaluate answer scripts to apply and commence duties soon. Students who sat the GCE (A/L) examination 2022 will be affected when the results of the examination are further delayed.

Chairman of the Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA), Shyam Banneheka said that until the top authorities concerned listen to their demands, the members of his Union will not evaluate the answer scripts.
