Wesley fall short in run chase against Bens

St. Benedict’s College registered a convincing 19-run win over Wesley College in their annual limited overs cricket encounter played at the SSC ground yesterday.

After opting to bat first, St. Benedict’s College managed to post a score of 241 all out from 47.1 overs. Wesley put up a thrilling fight to reach the target but were all out for 222 in 47.1overs.

For the Benedictines Shenal Samarathunga top scored with a fighting 74 while Chamath Chathurya and Mevan Dissanayake chipped in with 46 and 32 respectively.

Wesley opening fast bowler Senithu Amarasinghe had a brilliant spell grabbing 5/43 while Uvin Perera 2/33 and Chamath Gomez 2/33 supported well.

Wesley College got off to a bad start as the two openers fell cheaply to reach 50/2 with Chamath Gomez scoring a steady 29.

Skipper and left hander Linal Subasinghe (56), Isira (36) and Anuka Pahansara (32) tried their best but fell short of the target.

Left arm fast bowler Vihara Attanayake had a good spell to claim 3 for 41 while Chamath Chathurya 2 for 48.
