According to officials of the treasury, there is a possibility lift import restrictions on several items provided that the such relaxation of restrictions does not affect foreign exchange rates or foreign reserves. Restrictions on motor vehicle imports will remain the same, however, a recent discussion with CBSL governor indicated possibility of reduced policy rates to improve the situation in the second hand market.
Government has already reduced import restrictions on various products over the last two months with the improvement of foreign reserves and currency.
There is possibility that import restrictions will be lifted on products such as electronic devices, laptops, phones, medical equipment, televisions, household appliances, stationery etc.
