Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) has appointed Ravi Nagahawatte as its Media Director with effect from March 28.
Nagahawatte is a former career journalist who counted 27 years in the field and specialised in rugby coverage having first started off as a cub reporter at The Island newspaper. He was last on the staff at the Daily Mirror newspaper before making the change.
In a media statement SLR said Nagahawatte will “oversee matters relating to the media and is entrusted with duties to maintain and feed SLR’s official website and social media forums with content that will promote and develop the sport.”
Nagahawatte’s former media colleagues know him as being methodical and a friendly character who also took his work very seriously while also respecting the views of others.
He played as a prop forward for the Second Fifteen team ofThomas’ College and was also into bodybuilding.
He was a lecturer in Mass Communication.
