Trinity-St. Anthony’s one-dayer

The one-day cricket match between Trinity College and St. Anthony’s College, the 41st in the series, will take place on April 29 at the Asigriya Stadium for the Sir Richard Aluvihare trophy.

Trinity has won 19 matches while the Antonians have won the encounter 17 times.

One game ended in a tie with both teams making the same total and three games ended without a result due to wet weather in 1993, 2003 and 2008.

In last year’s game Trinity College pocketed a four-wicket win at Asgiriya.

KDCA cricket tourney to begin

The Kandy District Cricket Association club tournament is set to start with the commencement of the Sixes on April 29 and 30 at the Prison ground at Pallekele with 21 teams in the fray.

Last year when the tournament was revived after five years, Old Zahirians SC were champions by beating Kandy Youth CC.

The teams to take part are defending champions Old Zahirians SC, Kandy CC, Galagedara CC, Visuvious SC, Gampola CC, Saracens CC, Kandy Youth CC, Madawala CC, Old Rajans SC, Old Antonians SC, Old Trinitians SC, Pallekele SC, Sylvestrians CC, Ekamuthu SC, Kandy Zeylanikans CC, Kandy Bloomfield CC, Blue Universal SC, Southerland SC, Liverpool SC, Black Eagle CC and Old Rathiyanz CC.

The teams to play in the President’s trophy are – (Group A) Old Bahuwans SC, Kotmale CC, Madawala United CC, Kandy Doctors CC and Akurana CC. (Group B) University Staff Cricket Association, Onslaught CC, Galhinna YS SC, Kandy Academy CC and Kingswood CC.

The matches will be played at the Peradeniya University ground, Prison ground Pallekelle and Gampola Wickramabahu College ground.

Rajans TT player Senul doing well

Dharmaraja College’s fourteen year old tennis star Senul Ratnayake is in top form AND won the triple championship at the Central Province Ranking Table Tennis Tournament-2023 held at the Kandy Municipal Council Indoor Stadium.

He did his part well to win the under-15, 17 and the under-17 doubles with Safiullah Akram.

Ratnayake was the unbeaten top player of the tournament having represented the Sri Lanka team at the World Junior Table Tennis Championships in Oman and Thailand.

He was among the world top 50 under 13 players according to the world rankings in 2022.

He created history by being selected for the World Hopes as the first Sri Lankan player joining 19 other players from around the world. Despite his potential and achievements with prospects for a Games medal, Ratnayake has no financial godfathers other than his parents.

Kingswood hockey champs

Kingswood College emerged as champions in the Ritzbury Thomian Hockey 7s tournament organized by the Matale Old Thomians’ Hockey Associations at the Peradeniya University ground.

Eighteen teams were in action and in the final Kingswood College beat St. Aloysius College Galle to win the AJ Wijesinghe Memorial Trophy.
