21 May, 2023

Sri Lanka Tourism, organised a series of roadshows in China recently to encourage more Chinese tourists to visit Sri Lanka as their top travel destination.

The three roadshows were held in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai. Each roadshow attracted a large number of Chinese visitors. It also created an opportunity for the Sri Lankan travel trade to connect with the Chinese Travel Trade, and get to know more about their travel needs regarding the destination, while educating the travel trade and the Chinese media by highlighting the destination attractions at the country presentation.

The Sri Lanka delegation consisted of representatives of over 20 companies, along with Sri Lanka Tourism officials including, Managing Director of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), Ms. Padma Siriwardana, Chairman, Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), Thisum Jayasuriya, Assistant Director of Marketing for China, SLTPB, Chinthaka Liyanarachchi and Senior Manager SLCB, Ms. Achini Dandunnage. Over 60 agents from each city attended each roadshow.

A highlight of these roadshows was that after the reopening of the Chinese market for tourism, this was the first promotion carried out by SLTPB.

An MoU was also signed between Union Pay International and Sri Lanka Tourism.
