Minister of power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera announced that the final draft of the New Electricity Act and the transition program will be submitted to the Attorney General’s department next week. The final draft of the Act including the new amendments is to be presented to the Cabinet in the month of June for cabinet approval after AG has reviewed the Act.
Minister made this statement after a discussion regarding the final draft of the Electricity Act and the transition program was held at the Presidents office with the participation of the CEB reform committee, Chief of staff to the president, development agency consultants.
According to the Minister, previous timeline to complete the final draft last week has been amended due to observations made by various stakeholders.
