Govt will fill 4,718 Principal’s Service vacancies by June end - Minister

9 June, 2023

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha told Parliament yesterday (8) that the government will fill 4,718 vacancies in the Principal’s Service by the end of June.

The Minister of Education further said that the recruitment interviews for the Principal’s service are currently being held and the interviews will be completed by June 15.

He also pointed out that there are principal vacancies because examinations are not conducted on time and recruitments are not made. He said that due to a case in the Supreme Court in this regard, it was not possible to make the relevant appointments, but the case has now been settled.

Accordingly, the Education Minister said that by the end of June, the principal vacancies will be filled. He also said that 7,500 teachers will be appointed on June 16 to fill the teacher vacancies in schools. Appointments will be given to those recruited for the Colleges in 2019/2020.

Accordingly, the newly appointed teachers should report to the schools from June 19. He also said that in the future, teachers will be recruited by focusing on solving the shortage of teachers at provincial level.
