4 March, 2018

A fisherman, who was distressed at sea due to an injury, was brought ashore for treatment by the Navy on Friday.

The patient was on board the multi-day trawler ‘Victoriya 4’ which had put out to sea from the Beruwela fisheries harbour.

Following the receipt of the distress call, the P 480 Fast Attack Craft attached to SLNS Dakshina was dispatched to the location, 19 nautical miles off Galle Lighthouse, to bring the injured person, a release from the Navy media said.

The injured sailor was administered first aid while on board the naval craft before he was safely brought to the Galle harbour and was rushed to the Teaching Hospital in Karapitiya for further treatment.
