Ladies College player Anika Seneviratne became the first player in the country to win the women’s tennis Singles title on both clay and hard court in the same year when she achieved the feat by beating Anjalika Kurera from Ave Maria Convent Negombo at the National championships at the SLTA courts in Colombo yesterday.

She won the match 6/1, 6/3.

Anika’s strong attacking game was in full display and Anjalika the winner of two junior titles in this year’s Nationals had no answer.

Only in the second set at 3/1 down did Anjalika manage to tie the score at 3/3 with Anika making a host of unforced errors.

But the next three points were all Anika’s as she clinch the title to add to the women’s Doubles title she won yesterday partnering her sister Alana.

Anika is now in line for the prestigious Triple Crown and will partner Dineshkanthan Thangarajah in the Mixed Doubles final today.
