Arts festival in Anuradhapura

The 33rd North Central Provincial Annual Arts festival jointly organised by the Cultural Ministry and the Provincial Cultural Affairs Department was held at the Anuradhapura Korakahawewa Provincial Training Auditorium under the patronage of North Central Governor Maheepala Herath recently.

The theme of the 2023 festival was ‘’Arts for the empowerment of social responsibilities’’. Officials of nearly 187 arts institutes and organisations in the North Central Province participated and contributed to the annual Arts festival.

A large number of items such as stage plays, short drama, Udarata, Pahatharata and Sabaragamu dances integrated creative dances, short stories, lyrics, poems and drama scripts folklore were presented for the competition.

A special feature at the event was the facilitation bestowed on Atamasthanadhipathi Most Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Nayaka Thera, a renowned verses writer in recognition of his commendable services towards the Buddhist awakening and field of arts. It was disclosed that the theme song of the 2023 Provincial Arts Festival was also a creation of the prelate.

North Central Governor Maheepala Herath was conferred with the ‘’Rajarata Rajatha Seva’’ award in appreciation of his untiring service he has been rendering for the well-being of the people in Rajarata having moved to the North Central Province from distant Sabaragamuwa region. Chief Secretary of North Central Province Chandrasiri Bandara, a senior administrative officer was also facilitated with the same award to appreciate his service rendered for the benefit of the people in Rajarata.
