Isipathana trounce Thomians 41-21

Isipathana playing sensational rugby which resembled the Fijian Sevens in the final quarter of play running with their entire three quarter line foxed the S.Thomas’ Mount Lavinia right throughout the entire 15 minutes scoring two quick back to back tries through full full back cum vice captain Chamod Fernando and lock forward Anjula just before the close of play recording an impressive 41 points (7 tries, 3 conversions, ) to 21 ( 3 tries, 3 conversions) in their Singer

‘A’ Division inter schools league rugby cup championship second round match played at Havelock Park yesterday. The Winners were leading 19-7 at half time. Isipathana opened scoring in the 15th minute and went in to a 5 nil lead with a try by winger De Silva with Chamod missing the conversion. Thomians grab the lead 7-5 with a 24th minute try by prop forward Adeesha Hadunpathirana with the conversion coming from scrum half Dion Dias.

Isipathana scored two rapid tries just before half time through fly half Randy Silva ( Brother of CR & FC & Sri Lanka centre Rehan Silva) to increase the lead 19-7. After the break they further increased their score to 24-7 with a unconverted try by flanker Sudeera Gaynath in the 43rd minute of play. S’Thomas cut down the lead to 24-14 with a push over try through hooker Aabid Cader in the 48th minute with Dias firing across the conversion. Pathana increased the lead to 29-14 in the 52nd minute through a try by winger De Silva off a superb three quarter move which Chamod missed the conversion. Thomians hit back again this time through a spectacular try under the post in the 64th minute of play through their captain cum winger Naveen Henakankanamge for which Dias added the extra points the score to read 29-21 in favour of the Havelock Park school. Isipathana College virtually sealed the match in the 72nd and 76th minutes in their favour when full back Chamod Frrnando and second rower Anjula scored two fabulous back to back tries which Chamod puting over one conversion to take the final tally to Isipathana College 41 points to S’ Thomas College 21.
