Biodegradable wrapping sheets from Plastic Packaging

Plastic Packaging Pte Ltd (PPP), a pioneer food grade wrapping sheet manufacturer, is now manufacturing biodegradable and compostable food-grade wrapping sheets and has sold over 10 million sheets.

According to a PPP official, the zero polythene food-grade wrapping papers are manufactured under the brand name ‘Naturplus’ and has been approved by the Central Environmental Authority.

PPP also exports its products to the UK and plans to market them in a few other foreign markets this year.

Plastic Packaging Pvt Ltd (PPP) which has been existence for 30 years, confirms that ‘Naturplus’ bags do not contain any polythene and it has been certified in Belgium by Vincotte with the OK compost Home and seedling logo. The government banned the use of 20-micron polythene lunch sheets in Sri Lanka from September 1, 2017 and implemented it from January this year, considering the massive environmental pollution in the country. Speaking to Sunday Observer Business, PPP, Chairman Mervyn Dias said the certification is given by Vincotte after testing the products in independent labs. He said the certification is granted with all relevant reports highlighting that the bags would gets composted in industrial units and in home composting units within a very short period. “It does not pollute the environment like polythene which takes over 500 years to get composted.”
