Rimzi Hossen to direct Koi Rahta Hai

24 February, 2019

The Sri Lankan film industry is defined by its young, aspiring directors who focus on creative themes in order to make a change in the world. They are the ones who know the power of art and use that magic to change the mindset of people.

Rimzi Hossen is one such director. He’s been a film maker and a TV commercial director for 19 years. In 2018 he won the award for Best Concept for his short film H2O at the 3rd International Short Film Festival in Pune, India and in 2019 the Best Film Concept and the Best Director awards at the First International Short Flm Festival in Dombivli, India.

This short film was a success for the contributions made by Jayalath Bandara, Anuradha Jayasooriya, Shan Alwis, Roshani Hossen, Sugath Appuhami, Mariyam Zuhardeen and Manjula Ayagama who did the script writing, editing, producing and acting respectively.

Hossen created H2O focusing on a main global issue - water wastage. He awakened the audience with the message of protecting the resource. “Water is often an undervalued resource. Thousands of people die without clean water or no water at all. Its a basic need of living beings for survival. People pollute, waste and misuse water, while in another part of the world someone is looking for a sip of water just to survive. Let’s not take the resource for granted while we have it. We must treasure the resource and use it efficiently, ” said Hossen.

Very soon he will direct the Bollywood movie Koi Rahta Hai with Indian producer Sanjay Patak. Hossen said “Sri Lanka is home to many acclaimed filmmakers and directors. I’m trying to introduce new film making techniques to raise my current standard and hope Sri Lanka will provide me more opportunities to achieve my aims.

“I especially thank Chalaka Jayasinghe, Kumari Panditharathna, Sumith Perera, Saliya Danapala and Roshani Hossen for their great support”.
