Motown nostalgia

2 June, 2019

In just three day’s time it’s going to be an evening of wonderful nostalgia when Roy G. Hemmings will be on stage at the Hilton, Colombo with his ‘Motown Show”, the likes of which we here in Sri Lanka have not seen at all. In fact about 40 years ago the captivating songs from Motown rocked the global charts and reigned supreme. And on June 5, Roy G. Hemmings with his melodious voice and along with the Love Supremes will relive the hot favourites from the Motown World which would keep you rooted to your chair in amazement or see you throw caution to the winds and dance to the fascinating rhythms.

Roy G. Hemmings according to his critics is a great showman and a dynamic singer. With his easy, relaxed style and his fabulous voice he has entertained audiences around the world and has made appearances in several Royal Variety shows and at two performances at The White House. With the smooth harmonies and slick Motown dance routines of the Prim-eltes, the founder members being Diana Ross and Mary Wilson, before changing their name to The Supremes, the show on June 5 will be packed with the favourites, you have grown up with. One global critic who had the pleasure of seeing his show wrote, “It was like having a treasure from 1970 that has been wrapped in paper; there is a delight when you throw the paper away and find the treasure just as you left it, sweet, complete and great to look back at”.

You will have a delicious selection of songs to savour. Songs such as “I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Dancing In The Street, Ain’t No Stopping Us Now, My Girl, Stop In The Name of Love, Reach Out, I’ll Be There and including hits such as Me and Mrs. Jones, How Sweet It Is, Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay, Save The Last Dance and more.

The sound of Motown will happen again!
