St. Peter’s College registered an easy 22-3 victory over Science College in their inter-school league rugby encounter against Science College at Bambalapitiya yesterday after the tournament was suspended following last month’s Easter Sunday bombings in the country.

The Peterites scored four tries and made one conversion while Science College had to be content with only a penalty as the winners led 10-3 at half time.

Both sides put up a wonderful display of fast open rugby but the Peterites were superior in their display.

Science College opened the scoring in the third minute when they received a penalty and Akasha Madushanka kicked it right.

St. Peter’ss replied in the 20th minute when Thenuka Nanayakkara touched down near the posts after which winger Senthika Fernando scored their second try in the 25th minute.

There were also some handling errors on the part of both teams while the line-out ball was scrappy with several penalties conceded in the first quarter of the game.

The Peterites had a shocking start to the season when they lost to S. Thomas’ College in the opening match of the season in Mount Lavinia but yesterday’s win marked their fifth for the season.

The second half was one-sided with the Peterites dominating proceedings. But they could have scored more if not for making some passing errors.

The Peterites scored their third try through prop Julian Charles which was converted by AA Ranasinghe in the 15th minute of the second half.

They scored again ten minutes later when Shenol Silva made a break through the Science defence to touch down by the left corner.
