Wesley send Isipathana out

9 June, 2019

Isipathana College or what some call the green machine was dismantled by the Wesley College Colombo who won 29-18 their inter-school League rugby match played at Havelock park yesterday. The winners collects their points through five tries and two conversions while the home team scored only three tries and a penalty.

The defeat put Isipathana out of the running for the title.

Winger Kavinda Perera staged a brilliant performance and scored four tries to help Wesley College earn a bonus points at the end.

Wesley had the better of the early exchanges when inside flanker Akinda Gammanpila ran a nice line, taking an inside pass from Kavinda Perera to score under the posts with six minutes gone. Centre and skipper Murshee Subair slotted the extras to make it 7-0 for Wesley.

In reply Isipathana scored their first try when their center Ramitha de Silva touched down under the posts for an unconverted try.

Wesley pushed on to get their second try when Kavinda came on to the ball from seven meters out to touch down under the posts and increase the scores 12-5 followed by Kavinda scoring his third try.

Isipathana was awarded a penalty in the latter stage of the first half and it was well kicked by the skipper Manilka Ruberu.

In the second half it wasn’t long until Wesley had their fourth try through open-side flanker Akinda Gammanpila (24-08).

Isipathana winger Nadeen Basik broke the defense line and scored an unconverted try and continued to look for a foothold in the contest to score their third try when winger Nadeen Basik touched down under the posts five minutes into the second half.

Another five-meter scrum for Wesley was followed by several phases before Kavinda Perera crashed over for his fourth try. Isipathana’s Manika Ruberu scored his second try in the 30th minute of the game but it was too late as Wesley won 29-18.
