Royal College dominated the waters of the Beira Lake to win the TN Fernando Trophy as overall winners at the 50th Royal-Thomian Regatta at the Colombo Rowing Club yesterday.

Royal with 32 points won their fifth successive title as the Thomians picked up 20 points.

Royal’s 32 points came by winning five events to four by the Thomians. The A Four Boat race was won by Royal when they took the lead in the first 150 metres and maintained it to the finish with a time of three minutes. The Thomians came close to Royal in the final 500 metres but the Reid Avenue lads with more shoulder strength reached the finish with a lead of half a boat length.

S. Thomas’ won the first event of the day when Ashika Ratnaweera emerged winner in the A Scull event.

S. Thomas’ oarsmen made an attempt to come in to the competition by winning the A Double Scull event but the fancied Royalists never gave a chance to the Thomians to settle down.
