Sri Lanka’s stellar show continues

Sri Lankan athletes fared above and beyond expectations, at the end of the seventh-day, yesterday (7), in the 13th South Asian Games held in Kathmandu, Nepal, with an aggregate of 159 medals, including 30 gold medals, commandingly placed in third place.

It was a galore of gold medals with the Sri Lankans bagging in athletics, marathon and golf categories.

Accordingly, in the track and field events of athletics, the country equalized the gold tally (15 gold) after a long-lapse of 28-years.

In individual noteworthy performances, Hirunika Wijeratne, became the first Sri Lankan woman to claim gold in the marathon category.

In Golf, Grace Yatawara, contributed to the growing gold tally with twin top spots, in the individual and team events.

On the other hand, giving the cream on the cake to Friday’s significant achievement of men’s 4*100 relay, the men team topped the 4*400 relays.
