Ex-Sri Lanka cricketers to sing at fund-raiser concert for Kalutara

22 December, 2019

Former cricketers Chaminda Vaas, Tillekaratne Dilshan, Upul Chandana, Akalanka Ganegama, Dhammika Prasad and Sachitra Senanayake will team up at a musical concert on December 29 to raise funds for Kalutara Vidyalaya, a school which has produced several Sri Lanka and First Class club cricketers over the years.

They will be joined by some of the present day players Niroshan Dickwella, Milinda Siriwardena, Dilshan Munaweera, Sandun Weerakkody, Lahiru Madushanka and Madawa Warnapura at the show to be held at the Kalutara Town Hall.

The concept is the brainchild of former Kalutara Vidyalaya captain and coach and First Class coach Ranjan Paranavithana who was responsible for shaping the careers of ex-Sri Lanka players Tillekaratne Dilshan, Dulip Liyanage and Malinga Bandara along with several club cricketers. Milinda Siriwardena and Sujeewa de Silva are also products of Kalutara Vidyalaya.Paranavithana said that the present and former players who will perform at the show were spontaneous and non-hesitant when invited to be part of the fund-raiser.

“Kalutara Vidyalaya was a force and we want to return to where we were and this concert will take us to where we want to be.

It is an initial step to redevelop our cricket,” said Paranavithana who is also the president of the Kalutara Vidyalaya Cricket Foundation that is spearheading the project.“We are glad to note that these cricketers who have retired are giving back something to the game and they are also talented to sing and we are hoping for a great show.”

An organizing committee spokesman said more details could be obtained by calling Neville on 0717201366 or Rohitha Kottachi on 0714452795.
