The Sajith faction of the United National Party (UNP) is to meet the leaders of its coalition parties this week, to finalise the agreement on the proposed political front with the leadership of Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa.
UNP Parliamentarian Ranjith Madduma Bandara told the Sunday Observer yesterday that the name and symbol of the new coalition will be decided at the meeting.
“We met all leaders of our coalition partners including Patali Champika Ranawaka, Rauff Hakeem, Mano Ganesan, Digambaran last week. They all agreed to support a political alliance led by Sajith Premadasa” MP Madduma Bandara said.
He said that a majority of UNP members has decided to support a front led by Sajith Premadasa despite the absence of consent from the party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
“Ranil Wickremesinghe does not allow us to elect a new leader.
We will definitely build a new alliance under the leadership of Sajith Premadasa. We could see the public consent for it in the upcoming General election,” he added.
