Wesley College batted the whole day to force a draw in their inter school cricket encounter against Royal College at Campbell Park yesterday after Kamil Mishara’s marathon 141 helped his side to more or less dictate terms over their opponents.

The Wesleyites recommencing their first innings from an overnight 38 for 1 were off to a rocky start and the only batsman to have a good outing was that of Sahil Dias who made a half century to ensure Royal were deprived of forcing a result after they declared at 323 for 6 on the previous day.

With the majority of the batsmen failed to fire, Dias walking with four wickets down faced the task of carrying the team on his shoulders and did not succumb till he hit a decent 51.

Excluding that, the scoreboard did not have much to speak. However though from a weak position Wesley barely resuscitated while limping to 252.

The solitary bowler who managed to bother the Wesley batting was Rahul Gunasekara who finished with four wickets. Wesley winning the toss and asking their counterparts to take first lease of the wicket, lost their way on the first day itself as Royal enjoying their time in the middle.

Star of the show was opener Mishara setting the tone with a big 141. During his knock he taught a lesson to Wesley as to how to stay and play.

Courtesy of his innings Royal went on to amass an imposing 323 for six. Interestingly, Mishara the regular gloveman for both Sri Lanka Under-19 and his school was also busy testing bowling. Mishara’s mission to give his school a flying start gave him eight boundaries and five sixes and during the process of building the 323, he also starred in a 91-run stand.

Despite playing in home conditions Wesley failed to cash in on them and were reduced to passengers with Royal scoring freely.

From both the bowling and the batting department the hosts struggled to contain their opposition.

The centurion’s contribution aside, the Reid avenue lads did take turns and deposit to their team’s total.

Brief scores:

Royal 323 for six dec (Kamil Mishara 141, Kavindu Chathuranga 41, Thevindu Senaratne 31, Isiwara Dissanayake 30, Rahul Gunasekara 4/76)

Wesley 255 in 110.4 overs (Sahil Dias 51, Lakshan Ruwantha 34 not out, Gishan Balasooriya 3/28, Lahiru Madushanka 2/46)
