CR barred from playing after aborting match

8 March, 2020

The tournament committee of Sri Lanka Rugby has decided to suspend CR and FC from playing a further part in the ongoing league rugby tournament until an inquiry into their aborted match against Police is completed and a final verdict is given.

The entire team of CR and FC walked out of their match against Police last week protesting against the decision of the match commissioner to prevent their skipper Omalka Gunaratne from playing a part in the match citing sore eyes.

According to the match commissioner Gunaratne was prevented from playing on the advice of the match day doctor which infuriated the CR players.

In keeping with the rules the match was awarded to Police who were leading in the scores at the time the incident took place some 20 minutes before the scheduled final whistle. CR and FC were scheduled to host CH and FC in their second round League match at Longden Place today which has now been postponed.
