Nalanda principal elected schools cricket chief

Thilak Wattuhewa the principal of Nalanda College has been elected to new president of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association at its 71st Annual General Meeting held at the Ministry of Education.

Former vice president Wattuhewa recorded a landslide victory beating former vice president and principal of P. De S. Kularatne MV Ambalangoda, Jagath Senaratne by 166 votes to 58 votes.

Former secretary of the association the controversial Dilshan de Silva was routed by former under-19 tournament secretary JAKS Indrajith by 135 votes to 70 for the post of general secretary while Jaliya Jayantha of Asoka Vidyalaya Colombo came in third with 38 votes.

Manjula Vaz of St. Peter’s College Negombo (144 votes) was elected treasurer as he beat DM Rajaratne of Lumbini College (40 votes) and Wasantha Karuyawasam of President’s College Maharagama (28 votes).

Senior Deputy President: Oshara Panditharathne (Ministry of Education – Uncontested)

Gamini Jayawardena (Principal, Mahinda College – 98 votes)

Jagath Senaratne (Principal, P. De S. Kularathne MV Ambalangoda – 92 votes)

Nadith Jayaweera (Principal, Lalith Athulathmudali MV Mt. Lavinia – 77 votes)

General Secretary: JAKS Indrajith (Kegalu Vidyalaya – 135 votes)

Treasurer: Manjula Vaz (St. Peter’s College Negombo – 144 votes)

Asst. Secreatary: Leelananda Kumarasiri (Tzuchi National School Hambantota) (uncontest)

Asst Treasurer: Pradeep Kumara Dharmasena (Sri Buddha Jayanthi MMV, Balangoda – 93 votes)
