Being a sportsman or sportswoman is no barrier to College education and studies as six Sri Lankan junior athletes who did their GCE Ordinary Level examination while on National duty in Nepal last year bagged good academic results this week.

The six athletes are Chathuni Karunaratne, Chamodi Karunaratne who are twin sisters, Alana Seneviratne, Ayla Chitty, Yeheni Kuruppu and Ganga Seneviratne who represented Sri Lanka at the 13th South Asian Games in Kathmandu, Nepal in December 2019 and sat for their GCE O/L examination at the same time under government supervision. They all proved that sports and studies can go hand in hand if there is a will and probably the best example for student sportsmen and women in the future.

The results:

Chathuni Karunaratne (9As) Prince of Wales College (Fencing bronze)

Chamodi Karunaratne (8As 1B) Prince of Wales College (Fencing bronze)

Alana Seneviratne (7As 2Bs) Ladies College (Tennis silver)

Ayla Chitty (5As 2Bs 2Cs) Ladies College (Table tennis silver)

Yeheni Kuruppu (4As 4Bs 1C) Visakha Vidyalaya (Squash bronze)

Ganga Seneviratne (4As 2Bs 2Cs) Visakha Vidyalaya (Swimming three silver, one bronze)
