Covid-19: 189 sailors cured

17 May, 2020

A total of 189 sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy who have been affected by Covid- 19 have been completely cured, Navy spokesman Isuru Sooriyabandara told the Sunday Observer yesterday.

This was an improvement on the 177 as of Saturday out of around 400 victims, he said.

They were scattered in different hospitals such as the Navy Hospital and Government hospitals such as the IDH, Mulleriyawa, Homagama, Welikanda and Iranawila.

He said all the cured sailors were not sent to their homes , but they would be subject to further quarantine for a fortnight at various temples and hotels which have been donated by philanthropists for the accommodation of such victims.

Responding to a question as to how there was such a large number of Covid-19 patients from the Sri Lanka Navy of nearly 1,000, he said some of the weak points in infrastructural positioning within the camps was the reason and added that it could have happened in any Military Camp.
