University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof. Sampath Amarathunga has requested universities to complete the final year examinations of all faculties except for the Medical faculty by August 15. The examinations may commence from June 22.
Prof. Amarathunga told the Information Department yesterday that Medical faculties will hold final year examination from tomorrow under strict health regulations and guidelines.
According to health regulations, the UGC has taken measures to provide a hostel room for each candidate.
“We request candidates if possible to come for the examinations from home,” he said.
He said assigning seats for written exams and the number of students in a practical test will be determined according to the health regulations.
Prof. Amarathunga said that students will not be permitted to remain inside the university premises after 7.30 pm until further notice. Assemblies of any sort within or outside the university premises, entertainment or sports activities will also be prohibited until further notice, he said.
The Faculties of Arts, Science, Law and Education at the University of Colombo will be reopened for exams on June 29, the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Peradeniya will be reopened on June 28 and the examinations of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura will continue from August 4. All universities will conclude the exams by August 15, the UGC Chairman said.
