SLBC Director General calls on Mahanayake Theras

For the media institutions, first comes the service to the public rather than motivation for profit, the most Ven. Mahanayake Theras of the Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters told SLBC Director General, Chandrapala Liyanage when he called upon them to receive their blessings.

Respecting media ethics and communicating accurate information to the citizenry and giving priority to programs which help improve public knowledge are the main duties of media institutions.

The Most. Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera said that the Radio continued to remain alive with the people in the face of various challenges following the advent of television.

The Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Maha Nayaka Thera said, despite the competition by its rivals, the SLBC was resolute in respecting the media ethics. It is time to raise awareness among the pirivena bhikkhu students on the manner of conducting religious programme,

SLBC Director General Chandrapala Liyanage said the SLBC while competing with 51 broadcasting channels and 17 TV channels continues its national, religious and cultural activities in a wider scale, so as to convey the accurate and true information to the public. Since 1923 the SLBC has been playing a leading role in the conduct of Dhamma programs. The SLBC would never promote commercial advertisements at the cost of meaningful quality programs. Priority is always given to maintaining national identity and ethics.

Kandu Rata & Raja Rata broadcasting services have been located in historic cities so as to emphacize on religious values and historical heritage.

Provincial broadcasting services are of vital importance and it is we hope to run these institutions successfully after setting up an advisory board consisting of Maha Nayake theras, he said.
