Minister wants sports and education to go hand in hand

Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, who heads three ministries, Sports, Education and Youth Affairs, has drawn up plans to enable all three entities to work hand in hand and move ahead into the future.

According to a senior official of the Sports Ministry, national sports bodies and school sports associations will have to work more vibrantly as a single unit for successful results.

Secretary of the Sports Ministry KDS Ruwanchandra has already invited officials of national sports bodies and school sports associations to discuss their future plans for a healthier working relationship.

Already officials from sports like netball, judo, hockey, taekwondo, table tennis, wrestling, badminton, football, rugby, gymnastics, basketball, rowing, boxing, baseball, chess and squash have had successful discussions with Sports Ministry officials.

Topics ranging from training methods, coaching, standard of technology, infrastructure, equipment, tournament plans, domestic and international level competitions, finance, administration and discipline were discussed at the meeting according to the Sports Ministry.
