The Basketball Federation is awaiting the approval of the Sports Ministry to participate in an under-18 women’s (3x3) tournament which is scheduled to be held in Hungary this month.
Secretary of the Federation Dr. Chula Senaratne said that the organizers of this tournament have not taken any decision to postpone or cancel the event and they have sent in the names of six players to the Sports Ministry for approval.
“Many tournaments that were to be conducted in China were postponed over the past six months. But this under-18 tournament is held in Hungary and the European countries are keen on re-opening their sporting activities.
“This is good news for us who have not had any sport at all.
“Our players have been practicing under health ministry guidelines and are looking forward to contest the meet in Hungary,” said Senaratne.
