The best option to bridge the gap between education, higher education and the job market is to revise the school curriculum with inputs from the private sector, Minister of Education G.L. Peiris said.
The Minister was speaking at an inspection tour of the smart classroom at Susamayawardena Vidyalaya in Colombo on Thursday, September 24.
The Ministry has already invited the private sector to send written proposals in this regard, he said.
Minister Peiris said there are sufficient openings for jobs in Sri Lanka but the issue is the shortage of qualified people to fill these positions. He commended the project implemented by Brandix to set up smart classrooms in all schools across the island with a target of training one million students by next year.
The project has already covered schools in remote areas in the North, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and the Central Provinces.
Brandix Directors Ajit Johnpillai, Senthil Eswaran (Director, Eastern Province), Omar Asad, Lawrence Vincent and Principal of Samayawardena Vidyalaya, W. A. Kapila Weerasuriya, Media Secretary to the Minister, Buddhika Wickramadara and other officials were also present.
