Three new shooting rangers were set up in three different districts, specially designed to develop school children for future competitions.

This came about with the swift response by Minister of Sports Namal Rajapaksa after a request was made by the National Shooting Sport Federation (NSSF) when the two parties met.

President of the NSSF Shirantha Peiris presented their development plan to the Minister at the meeting.

As a first step the Minister approved the construction of one air gun range in each district to serve over 7500 school shooters. The final objective is to have shooting ranges in all 25 districts of Sri Lanka that would be accessible not only to the students but also to the shooting community in general.

“I am so happy that these children can now have a venue to train and how shooting would improve their focus in studies and their general discipline,” said Peiris.

The programme is also extended to train school teachers as coaches who will overlook the training of their students.
