Lanka ranks 180th in Covid-19 cases per million - State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana

Sri Lanka ranks 180th in the number of Covid-19 patients reported for everyone million people, Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana said.

Qatar is at the top with 46,464 Covid-19 patients for every one million, and Bahrain recorded 46,075, he said presenting statistics to Parliament on Friday.

Prof. Jayasumana said around 90 percent of Covid-19 patients reported as having fever, 70 percent had dry cough and only 15 percent complained of sore throat.

Consultant Virologist Dr. Nadeeka Janage told the electronic media yesterday that Covid-19 can spread by touching contaminated surfaces at the Peliyagoda fish market, touching the fish, the bag containing it and money exchanged during the purchase.

Therefore, it is important to clean hands and all surfaces touched. Eating properly cooked fish is safe, he said.
