Maharoof and Kulasekera get LPL contracts

Former Sri Lanka cricketers Farveez Maharoof, Nuwan Kulasekara and Lanka de Silva have been appointed as support staff of the Kandy Tuskers for the LPL.

Earlier Hashan Tillekaratne was appointed head coach of the team .

Maharoof who last played for Sri Lanka in 2016, has been appointed as team manager cum cricket director. Maharoof played 22 Tests, 109 ODIs and 8 T20Is and was involved with cricket administration after his retirement.

He was the manager of the under-19 team last year including the last World Cup held in South Africa.

Kulasekara who last played international cricket in 2017, has been appointed as the bowling coach of the team. The veteran has 313 scalps across all formats for his country.

The LPL will be his first assignment as bowling coach in competitive cricket after retirement.

Former wicketkeeper/batsman Lanka de Silva has been appointed as fielding coach for the Kandy team which will be captained by Kusal Perera.

The Kandy Tuskers franchise belongs to Bollywood star Salman Khan’s family. Salman’s brother Sohail Khan and father Selim Khan were actively involved in selecting the squad.

Sohail has confirmed his brother Salman will be in Sri Lanka to watch the LPL live. This is Salman’s first involvement in cricket.

Meanwhile Upul Chandana has been appointed bowling coach of the Galle Gladiators team while former Pakistan wicket keeper batsman Moin Khan has been appointed head coach. The Galle team belongs to a Pakistan franchise.
