PCR tests to be increased to 20,000 daily- Dr. Sudath Samaraweera

22 November, 2020

Chief Epidemiologist, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said that the daily PCR tests will be increased up to 20,000 soon, adding that the strengthof the Covid-19 transmission is now lower than before. “The strength of the Covid-19 virus to transmit the disease among people may further reduce in the next two weeks. The Rapid Antigen test has made it possible to identify Covid-19 cases promptly”, he told the electronic media on Friday (20).

Dr. Samaraweera said the DNA and RNA of the Covid-19 virus change when it enters the body of people and sometimes the strength of the virus to stay in a stable condition, to make people sick, to live without getting destroyed change with those mutations.

The various health conditions caused by the virus can also change with the mutation of the virus. Sometimes these destroy the virus quickly or prolong the life of the virus, he added. The two main types of nucleic acids are DNA and RNA. Both are made from nucleotides, each containing a five-carbon sugar backbone, a phosphate group and a nitrogen base. DNA provides the code for the cell’s activities, while RNA converts that code into proteins to carry out cellular functions, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said.
