Second Reading passed

The vote on the Second Reading of Budget 2021 was passed in Parliament yesterday with a two-thirds majority. One-hundred-and-fifty one MPs voted in favour and 52 against.

The Second Reading debate, which commenced on Wednesday, November 18 ended yesterday. The debate of the Third Reading will commence on November 23 and continue until December 10 and the Third Reading vote will be taken on December 10 at 5.00 p.m.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Minister of Finance on Tuesday, November 17 presented to Parliament the Government’s Budget proposals for 2021 mainly targeting people-centric development, economic development and the welfare of the people.
